The herpes virus is quite common, many of us have experienced it in the form of a cold sore or fever blister. Herpes is caused by the herpes simplex virus; type one is what causes cold sores on the lips and face, and type two causes genital herpes lesions. Once the herpes virus is in the body, it remains there and outbreaks can occur during periods of stress and illness, or during exposure to the sun, which can trigger a cold sore.

These herpes treatments as well as other effective therapies have proven to be beneficial at stopping the virus while using the medications, but does not prevent recurrence once the treatment is stopped. However, L-lysine, olive leaf extract, red marine algae, lavender, myrrh, sage, and other herbs and vitamins that have proven to be effective herpes treatments and help reduce reoccurrence.

Cold sores and genital herpes are unpleasant at best, but with the wide availability of various herpes treatments, sufferers do not have to endure a long drawn out healing process, which is what it would be without some type of intervention. An abundance of information regarding effective herpes treatments is available on the internet, and some treatments are available by prescription only.

Health care providers should also be consulted regarding the use of herbal and prescription medications, and alternative therapies. Side effects can occur if herbs are not taken correctly, either by taking too much or by mixing incompatible herbs and medications. Herpes does not have to get in the way of living, thanks to effective herpes treatments.
